Tammy Murphy Wins Somerset County ConventionMurphy Wins Somerset County Convention with 63% of Votes

RED BANK, NJ — Today, Tammy Murphy won the Somerset County Convention in her bid to become the first woman to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. Murphy won the Convention by earning 207 votes — with 63% of the vote — against Congressman Andy Kim.

The win in Somerset County comes on the heels of Murphy’s Monday night win in Bergen County. Murphy has also won the endorsement from Passaic County and through the Union County Convention. These four counties alone represent 26.1% of registered Democratic voters in some of New Jersey’s most diverse and urban communities, compared to the 14.7% that Kim has earned.

“I am incredibly proud to have earned the votes of hundreds of Somerset County delegates who are ready for a bold and effective leader to represent them in Washington,” said Tammy Murphy. “Tonight’s win, coupled with a resounding result in Bergen, has generated a palpable energy behind my campaign and I could not be more excited for the road ahead. I look forward to continuing to earn support from around the state vote by vote, and sharing my progressive vision with all New Jerseyans.”

Murphy has also received endorsements from over 80 faith and community leaders, six Congressional members, and over 100 elected officials. Additionally, Murphy has received support from multiple unions including the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union New Jersey Locals 464A, 360, 1262, 312, and 152; the International Longshoremen’s Association; the New Jersey Council of Sheet Metal Workers; the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International and the ATU New Jersey State Joint Council; the New Jersey State Electrical Workers Association Construction Division of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; the Sheet Metal Workers Local 25; the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 21; the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers; the State Troopers Fraternal Association; the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 194; the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association; and the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
